Gravity: A Look Back
Stormwater runoff is the primary cause of pollution in Puget Sound. This mix of oil from our cars, fertilizers from our yards and other chemicals empties into storm drains and eventually our waters. And there is more of this runoff than ever. As homes and businesses sprawl into our rural areas, the amount of roads, roofs and parking lots increase. When we pave our lands over, our natural systems lose the ability to properly filter the runoff.
What is built, where it is built and how it is built determines the quality of the water in the Sound. The loss of our working lands and natural areas to development has a direct and detrimental impact on the health of Puget Sound.
To protect Puget Sound we must protect our remaining forests, farms and natural lands and make our cities and towns magnets for population growth. Cascade Land Conservancy is working with residents across the region to conserve our rural lands and make our communities great places to live, work and raise our families.
