A few weekends ago, our Northgate and Matthew’s Beach Tree Ambassadors hosted an amazing Tree Walk to showcase their urban forest. The Tree Ambassadors guided 80 neighbors and tree enthusiasts around as a way to show them healthy forests, share cool tree facts and explain why we need trees. There were so many people out to see the trees that cars couldn’t pass!

Seattle’s Urban Forests are an amazing resource. A recently published report shows that our urban trees are worth nearly $5 billion and provide $23 million in annual cost savings to the city. Like their name implies, the Tree Ambassadors are an on-the-ground resource to help connect community members with their forest through education and outreach. They are trained in the basics of urban forestry, leadership and community organizing and play a critical role as liaisons between the city, the trees and Seattle’s residents.
Thanks to funding by the USFS Urban and Community Forestry Program, the Ambassadors are able to host more Tree Walks, like the one in Northgate. For more information, see the tree walks page on the Seattle website.
